My Travels

I haven't traveled a lot, but in the last few years, I had great experiences in some different areas. I have been in Rio de Janeiro, Chicago, Arizona and Sarasota-Florida.
All of these places are a little different and all have memories for me. I would like to tell a little about each one.
I was born in Manaus,Amazonas, Brazil. When I was 12, I went to my mom's hometown, a city called Fordlandia. Later, when I was a 18, I went to live in Rio de Janeiro for three long months. The city was really pretty with beautiful beaches and big shopping malls. The only bad thing about the city was the violence. I wouldn't live there even if I had the best job in the world. However, I would come back to visit at least for a few days, but no more.
After 3 months I spent in Rio, I got my visa and I went to Chicago. I really love the city. It is such a beautiful place. I can't say what I love about it the most, maybe the weather, the first snow, the squirrels, the nice houses, I don't really know. What I can say is that I learned a lot there. I had my first Halloween, I ate my first cupcake, and I learned my first English words. Maybe all that new experience made me like Chicago even more. Of course, not everything was perfect. My English was really poor, so that was a big obstacle back them. I was working with 20 Mexican girls, wich made me learn Spanish really fast, but put my English a little behind. After a while I started missing my family back in Brazil and I was okay with the idea of eating sandwiches at lunch or having just 15 minutes to eat. As you can see, nothing is perfect.
Later on, I went to Arizona. Arizonas was so pretty, really exotic. I went there just for a week so I didn't have time to see the bad things about the state. It was really hot and everybody was in good shape. The mountains were incredible and the sunsets were some of the prettiest I had even seen.
Six months later, I went to Sarasota, Florida, a really nice city. It has a lot of beach and a lot of great restaurants. Seafood is the city's speciality. You don't see a lot of young people there, but I guarantee you that you can have a wonderful time.
I still want to visit a lot of cities here and in the others countries. My next stop will be in Spain. I want to see Madrid, Barcelona, and other cities there. And of course, I promise that I wil let you know about that too.

Your travels include very different places. I like the details about what you learned in Chicago. What were you doing in Chicago? What kind of work were you doing? It's quite amazing to come to the United States and learn Spanish before English. Was that what you expected? I like to visit Chicago, but I don't think I would like to live there. It is too big for me.

I have had a number of students from Brazil, and they always learn Spanish really well because they hear all the other students around them speak it in the dorm. So I know what you mean about learning it from the women you worked with!

I am originally from north of Chicago, and Chicago has always been my idea of a big city. The one thing I don't like about it, though, is the weather -- at least not the winter weather!
